My name is Joelle and I’m the boss lady of ‘Hitched by Joelle’ based out of Edmonton, AB.
We all have a fiery passion. Something that makes us tick, something that puts our two feet on the ground running bringing about a sense of sheer joy and satisfaction. When I graduated with my Business Degree from the University of Alberta Augustana Campus I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be. Everything seemed like an incredible adventure: a cake designer, financial advisor, web designer, some type of business owner…the list went on and on. Looking back now, I laugh because it was so obvious as to where I was headed, I just wasn’t able to see it at that time. I remember creating lists, stashing stationery from friends and families weddings, downloading free “drink tag” files from the Martha Stewart Weddings website and taking mental notes of what I wanted to do at my next party or for my own dream wedding. After a few years, my verve for weddings and events became crystal clear.
In the beginning, I jumped right not the event industry in order to figure out exactly where my niche was. I was fortunate enough to get my feet wet working with the Edmonton Marathon, FaBLOOMosity, KH Events & Decor, and Big Valley Jamboree. My involvement in several multifaceted events reinforced my strong organizational skills and helped me grasp the type relationship I wanted to have with my clients. One thing led to the next and I found myself signing off on my incorporation papers for Hitched by Joelle in 2014 to focus on helping couples plan and design one of life’s most memorable moments–weddings.
Look, I love love, a lot. Becoming a wedding planner was not because of how glamorous Mary from “The Wedding Planner” portrays the job but because love physically makes my heart shift. It’s what connects us, is what we act out of and is what keeps us human. If you have a coffee consult with me then you’ll hear my say this again, but I’ve been surrounded by pure and big love my whole life and I feel so fortunate to have a job that allows me to help perpetuate that same love. My parents Bryan and Vina have been blissfully married for 36 years, my grandparents Lloyd and Lilas just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and my husband Cam and I were just married this September so let me tell you…I’m having all the feels for love this year! When I finally allowed myself to be silently drawn by the strange pull of what I truly loved, it placed me perfectly under the hat of a wedding planner. Becoming a wedding planner was quite the natural fit as I adore making true, authentic connections with my clients as they all come from such varying walks of life which engages me and inspires me. These connections allow me to master each couple’s vision and bring that vision to life. I don’t believe things have to be done the way they always have been done which as a result encourages me to push the boundaries of traditional design and decor. My creativity is my product which evokes an emotion, creates a design and sculpts a wedding into a work of art. Every couple I work with brings about new ideas which I embrace whole heartedly because let’s be honest, who loves doing the same damn thing over and over again?! Working with these couples, hearing their story and commitment to one another and then translating that into an experience is what makes my job the best job EVER! The uniqueness in each couples day and the level of joy it creates is what I live for. I’m beyond fortunate to be continually inspired by love and am so looking forward to the opportunity of working with you and your fiancé on creating an event so special that the memories will last a lifetime.
